Crops to Direct Sow NOW

Now is the best time to direct sow overwintered hardy annuals or "Cool Flowers." If you don't already have the seeds, remember that Ball Seed ships in-stock seed orders the same day if placed by 5:00 pm central time.

5 choices of direct-sow flowers for cool weather

Search WebTrack for these fall sown crops:

Larkspur
Centaurea (Bachelor Buttons)
Bupleurum
Nigella
Orlaya
Bells of Ireland (Does best in a high tunnel)

Direct-sown seeds should be watered daily until they are sprouted and have established good roots. Then water as needed until winter weather arrives. Row cover on low hoops is good insurance against winter animal damage and severe winter weather.

Do NOT sow the seeds and walk away hoping Mother Nature will provide enough rain. She will let you down.
